BARF Puppy Menu

Our diet is based on Dr. Billinghurst BARF diet books

This Diet plan is for our Staffordshire Bull Terriers who are under 3 months of age. Your plan may be different depending on your area and breed.

Puppy Milk

(Usually given when mom weans her puppies. May be given at any time though, even to adult dogs)

1 cup or 250ml of Goats milk (cows milk may be used but it is harder to digest, Goats milk is much better)
1 teaspoon of natural unprocessed honey
1 teaspoon of flax seed oil
1 raw egg (no shells)
1 junket tablet (thickener) This can be left out.
1 teaspoon of natural nondairy yogurt
Several drops of liquid vitamins, multi B and C (20 drops of each)

If you need to make more than this multiple the amounts by how many cups of goats milk you use. For example if you use 3 cups of goats milk than you would use 3 eggs, 3 teaspoons of yogurt etc.

Put all of this is a blender and mix very well. The liquid should froth a bit. Put the blender jar in hot water or you can pour the contents into a bottle and put that in hot water, stirring occasional.

As the mixture gets warmer it should get thicker. This is what you want. When it reaches room temperature it is ready to be given to the puppies. What is left can be put in the refrigerator and stored until needed again.

Puppy Mush *

1 teaspoon of kelp powder
1 teaspoon of flax seed oil
2 gloves of garlic
1/2 whole Romaine (COS) lettuce

Add some other veggies, start with 1 or 2 and small amounts and slowly increase over several weeks (see adult menu for veggies to use),

Blend until all veggies are chopped very well, next add

1 large spoonful of cottage cheese
1 large spoonful of natural yogurt
2 eggs with shells
3 chicken livers OR 1 slice of beef liver

Blend until all is mixed and blended together, empty into a big bowl

Add ground beef or chicken or turkey to fill the rest of the blender. We prefer to use chicken carcass mince available at your pet store

With large spoon mix very well, stirring until the meat mince is completely blended with the veggie mix

* With young pups make sure there is more meat than veggies. Over a period of weeks, slowly increase the amount of veggies used. It you put too much veggie’s in, the pups may not eat it. Continue to feed this until you feel the pup is ready to switch to the adult menu.

Fruit Mush

Basically any fruits will do all blended together. Start out with say apples and bananas to make sure your puppy will eat these, then add oranges, kiwi fruit etc. You do not want to feed any seeds or pits from any fruit. Make sure you remove these before they are blended together.
