STAFFORD MEETS BLAKE!

Author: Elise Thomas, Reprinted with permission

Stafford! Stafford! Red or White,
Blue, Black, Fawn with white or Pied,
Or Brindle coat with darken'd eye,
Outline of perfect symmetry.
Lounging under sunny skies,
Burnished coat and narrowed eyes,
Amassed Challenge points we aspire,
Yet you sleep, content by fire.
And what perfect shoulder! what art,
Trust and love the secret to your heart,
And when our heart begins to beat,
Will you behave on Stafford feet?
What the gait? What kind of chain?
In which bait bag was your brain?
What the entrance? What the grasp,
Your neck my trembling fingers clasp.
When run as though chased by spears,
And water'd the ring with my tears,
Did breeders smile their work to see?
Did he who sired Grand Champions sire thee??
Stafford! Stafford! Red or White,
Blue, Black, Fawn with white or Pied,
Or Brindle coat with darkend eye,
Outline of perfect symmetry.
