What is BSL?
BSL stands for "breed specific legislation". Many people, local governments and countries are struggling to come up with an answer to dog attacks and aggressive dogs. These dogs sometimes maim and kill people. However, in order to deal with this serious problem, governments are blaming the dogs and NOT the owners of these dogs. Many people train their dogs to be aggressive for protection, guard dogs and even dog fighting. Owners must be responsible "parents" to their dogs. Dogs should be treated well, fed well, discipline, receive medical treatment and have obedience training. Another important item is dogs being "socialized". When they are puppies they should be allowed to associate with other kinds of friendly dogs where they will learn how to be good dogs. But governments in passing these laws are blaming all dogs of a certain breed for the deeds of a few. There have been cases where a human has been attacked and some times killed by a dog that was not leashed or taking care of properly. Is it right to ban the entire breed of dog for the action of one? Or is it right for the entire breed to be banned because of the human owner training the dog to be aggressive? Please visit the links below to learn more about what is being done.
